About me

My name is Fiona Beal from Cape Town in South Africa.  I am a fully qualified teacher teaching at a primary school in Cape Town.  Currently I am the Technology Integration and Coding teacher at my school. I love collaborating and networking with other teachers.

I am a 2016 - 2022 Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert in South Africa.   I am also a Google Certified Innovator and attended the Google Teacher Academy in New York in 2012. In 2018 and 2019 I was one of 10 finalists in the ISPA Suooer Teacher competition in South Africa.

I started this blog in 2009 when blogging just started to gain popularity in schools. That same year I used my blog for a History project at school, and my Grade 5 students made blogs as well. Basically, we decided to befriend and learn about our local history from residents at a nearby Home for the Elderly (Nerina Gardens) over a six-week period, and wrote up our findings in our blogs. The project culminated in each student teaching the elderly how to create and maintain their own blogs. .  This project led me to become a winner of the Microsoft Innovative Educator competition in South Africa (in the collaboration category) and as a result of that I travelled to Mauritius, Brazil, and the USA (Seattle) to network with other teachers who had won the same competition in their countries. No wonder I love blogging the way I do!

In addition, I am a curriculum and content writer.  My curriculum writing comprises writing textbooks for many different publishers I have written well over 100 text books (Grade 1 – 9) for publishers over time, with a partner or a team.  I have also written extensively and created video lessons for www.e-classroom.co.za
