Staff development at my new school

Today is the day before the term starts and the day before I will be starting my part-time teaching at a new school. It is staff development day and the principal asked if I could give a talk to the staff on project-based learning as opposed to doing projects. She was quite taken with the way that Somerset House Primary uses project-based learning in Grade 6 and thought it would be great to introduce it at our school next year.  I am feeling quite nervous but a couple of days ago I thought of the idea of asking Michele Botha from Somerset House to maybe present a little video about it. She is an absolute expert on the topic. Well, Michele being Michelle – she agreed and sent me a lovely prezi and a short video about project-based learning.

Right now I can’t locate my presentation (now WHERE did I save it?) but I will add Michelle’s prezi link and video instead as they say it all anyway.

An example of project-based learning from Michele Botha of Somerset West

Michele is the Head of Curriculum and also the Technology Integration Specialist at Somerset House Primary. She creates wonderful projects using the project-based learning approach and I have learned so much from her. I asked her to give her views on project-based learning and she created this screen cast for me:

1) If you would like the link to Michele’s prezi here it is:
